District Assembly Presentation

May 3rd, 2006
Honorable District governor Bob, Incoming District Governor Marty and fellow Rotarians. Good afternoon. My name is Mini Hu.

It’s a great pleasure for me to be in Philadelphia as a cultural ambassadorial scholar exchanged to your district. I thank District Rotaract Chair Jane for inviting me to participate in District Assembly today. Also, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the hospitality and courtesies that Rotarians of District 7450 are offering to me, especially my host counselor, John. I also am grateful for the wonderful Rotary Foundation to invest in education. That wise investment is the most important support to cover my tuition and the flight here.

At first, I want to introduce my district 3520 and the development of Rotaract clubs in Taiwan. My sponsored club is Taipei Hwa Nan Rotary Club and we have 80 clubs in this district. There are over 32 hundred Rotarians and each club is about 40 members. This is the newest district in Taiwan originated from District 3480 and it started in 1998. Yesterday I called District Governor of my district and he said that he is delighted that we have already donated 8.6 hundred thousand dollars to Rotary International Foundation and want to achieve the goal of one million dollars. The highest contribution per Rotarian all over the world is District 3520, Taiwan.

As for Rotaract clubs, there are 37 clubs in my district. Most of them are community base. We all know Rotaract is an extention of the service of Rotary clubs around the world. Through the Rotaract program, young adults refine their knowledge and skills as community leaders. As the Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30, Rotaract addresses the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting world understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.

Being a Rotaract, I feel proud of myself. Why? Serving as a volunteer within my community through Rotaract clubs gives me the understanding of the world and pushes me to develop myself a well-rounded individual. Engaging in community services makes me happy and obtains satisfaction in knowing that I have improved the quality of life for the people that I am assisting even though I don’t have lots of abilities and money now. Last year, I took my club to help the hospitals and living assistance to repaint the rooms. When I was in a break, I noticed that not only eery Rotaract was with smiles on their faces but also persons we helped looked like they were full of hopes. That kind of experience really impressed me and connected my life with Rotary more tightly.

Last, on behave of the young generation and Rotaracts, I express my sincere gratitude to you again. Because of your investment in education through Rotary Foundation, I stand here. Rotaracts of today are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the leaders of today because of your encouragement and inspiration. Representative of the cultural ambassador of Taiwan, a beautiful island full of rich cultural activities, please experience Taiwan in any time.
Thank you for your time/ attention.
